Great Reputation
In general it is very comforting for us and a big WOW for our customers for us to be able to tell them where their equipment or vehicles are at any moment. And being able to give our local police department ETA at a moment’s notice, without having to call the driver to find out.
However, the most surprising moment our FleetMatics has come in handy was when a former driver stole from us and we were able to piece it together w/ the route replay and on-board equipment report.
We dispatched this on-call driver to deliver a broken down vehicle to a specific service center that we do business for. When he arrived on scene he coaxed the owner of the vehicle into taking his car to a different repair shop closer to his home, one we do not even conduct business with. For whatever reason the driver did not turn in his paperwork for a couple of days and we were unaware. Two days later we received a phone call from the service center that was originally expecting the vehicle. We were told that the owner of the car called to inform them that the tow truck driver was very rude and very persistent about taking his vehicle elsewhere. The owner admits he gave in to our driver w/ hesitation, but wanted to speak to them and make sure his vehicle was at a reputable place, being that the owner is from out of town. As a courtesy that original shop gave us a call and wanted to give us a heads up so we could investigate. So I went to work on FleetMatics to review activity of the driver that performed the tow. I saw the time he arrived on scene, when his PTO engaged to load the car, where he ended w/ the vehicle, and also when the PTO engaged again to drop off the vehicle. By this, I was able to see he did in fact tow the vehicle. I spoke to the owner of the car to confirm this fact and was told he paid cash, but no receipt was offered. I approached the employee and asked for his invoices for the past few days and he handed them over. To my surprise, an invoice was not in there for the tow in question. So I asked him where it was.....that's when I knew. He explained that he never completed the tow, that he hooked up to the car on the interstate and the owner informed him he did not have any money so he un-hooked the vehicle and left him there. We FIRED him on the spot! Thank you FleetMatics!
